Kilronan Castle

project information

Complete renovation of castle ruin into a finished 4* hotel, spa and leisure centre with 84 bedrooms and an additional 66 dwelling units.

The Castle itself sits proudly on a hilltop overlooking Lough Meelagh. There is a boathouse and a stone pier on the lakeshore and an underground tunnel service entrance to the house, a reminder of the days when tradesmen and servants should not be seen. There are also underground coach houses and barrel-vaulted cellars which we are restoring. The magnificent stone exterior of the Castle will support all of the considerable interior and restoration work that will return it to its former glory.

The original Castle was built in the early 1800’s and belonged to Colonel King Tenison. It was extended by the 12th Earl of Kingston in 1876 with a five story over basement baronial tower and battlement. During the Edwardian period, the Earl and Countess of Kingston enjoyed the estate until political and social change saw the closure and sale of Kilronan and other county estates both in Ireland and abroad.

The development of the project to include 60 houses was completed in 20 months and today it is a testament to the diligent work put into this significant building and bringing same back to life.
