Shelton Abbey

project information

Shelton Abbey is the old residence of Lord Wicklow and is now operated by the Irish Prison Services as an open facility. The building is listed, and all works were reviewed and sanctioned by an conservation architect. A 14,000 sq ft new build accommodation building incorporating 44 bedrooms and complete conversion to existing industrial kitchen and dining facilities including refurbishment of bedrooms to admin areas on existing first floor.

The building is located within an existing Abbey, consisting of numerous listed buildings. The new building was built by modern sustainable methods and surrounded the old courtyard and stables. The courtyard had been used for car parking; our brief was to form a new modern courtyard area. All materials used during the new construction were designed to match the original building.
